ARMOURY

REUSE THE FALLEN CHURCH

Armoury revitalizes an existing building by integrating new, permeable cubic spaces within the church's distinct skyline. It features a modular scaffolding structure allowing versatile configurations and easy assembly. Customizable spaces with interchangeable panels ensure optimal acoustics. A central glass cover shields from sunlight, envelops and revives the church's interior, preserving its historic essence.

ARMOURY

REUSE THE FALLEN CHURCH

Music is architecture without a building.
Past and present work together to create a concert hall in the heart of Lucania.

Armoury operates on the pre-existing building, preserving it and integrating new functions marked by permeable cubic spaces in contrast with the jagged and weakened skyline of the church.

Modular structural system made of scaffolding was chosen for the variety of possible configurations and for the ease of assembly and disassembly. The full project is characterized by the possibility of customizing these spaces through different types of interchangeable panels in order to obtain the best acoustics for every occasion.

With the aim of preserving the spatial experience of the building, the central nucleus includes a glass cover capable of shielding the sun's rays. The spatial programming includes, in addition to the required fuctions, an exposition-room structured on more levels, large terraces and an observatory aboving the ruins of the old bell tower.

The whole is guarded by a glass armor that wraps and protects the interior of the church, stitching up and giving new life to the historic building
