PORTA DI MEZZO
TEMPORARY PAVILION - BOOKSPACE
Porta di Mezzo, inspired by the shape of the tower's door, aims to symbolically unite two historically close yet distinct worlds. Strategically positioned in the square, it provides a panoramic 360° view. The horizontal slats of the structure have interruptions allowing observation of various elements in the square. Among these, wooden elements evoke the stones of the ancient historical walls.

PORTA DI MEZZO
TEMPORARY PAVILION - BOOKSPACE
Leggere un libro non è uscire dal mondo, ma entrare nel mondo attraverso un altro ingresso.
-Fabrizio Caramagna
Raised in the 12th century, the Torre dell’Orologio in Piazza 9th Aprile splits the historic center of Taormina into two sides, separating the Greek-roman part from the medieval one. For this reason the tower is also knows as Torre di Mezzo.

The temporary structure Porta di Mezzo is actually proposed as an element of unity between two worlds that are apparently close but historically distant worlds. The installation takes up the shape of the tower’s door and is placed inside the square in a strategic way, ensuring a 360° view and suggestive focuses on the monuments.
Near the internal seats, the horizontal blades, which are part of the structure, have interruptions from which it is possible to observe various elements that characterize the square.

To conclude the installation, as an element of unity between one blade and the other, there are squat wooden elements recall the historic walls’ stones now largely lost.
